This is the 7th eruption in the past 12 months in this region. The eruption poses no danger to the capital nor has it interrupted air traffic to and from Iceland. A good overview of the event can be found on the official public safety website.

We would also like to point out that the Icelandic Met office website is a great resource of information for much more than just the weather. Their website in English can be found here.

Cynthia will give a keynote titled “What does it mean to ‘work as intended’?“.

Cynthia will present her ongoing work on dealing with the complexity of human-focused use cases where the data is unstructured and “messy”, measurement procedures non optimal and even when traditional metrics and procedures can be followed things can still end up with problematic outcomes.

Keynote speaker Dr. Hannes Högni Vilhjálmsson https://cbmi2024.org/?p=643 Wed, 27 Mar 2024 19:29:16 +0000 https://cbmi2024.org/?p=643 Read more…]]> We are proud to announce that Dr. Hannes Högni Vilhjálmsson has accepted to be one of the keynote speakers at CBMI 2024. He will give a keynote titled “Being Multimodal: What Building Virtual Humans has Taught us about Multimodality“.

In his talk he will describe his work with Intelligent Virtual Agents (IVAs) and his work in making them have human-like traits when interacting with the virtual world around them. Hannes has been on the staff of Reykjavik University since 2006, full professor since 2020. Hannes was the director of CADIA (Center for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents) between 2013 and 2016. Currently he is leading the Socially Expressive Computing group (that is part of CADIA).

After successful editions across Europe in France, Austria, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, and Hungary, the Content-Based Multimedia Indexing (CBMI) conference will take place in Reykjavík, Iceland this coming September 2024. CBMI aims at bringing together the various communities involved in all aspects of content-based multimedia indexing for retrieval, browsing, management, visualisation and analytics. We encourage contributions both on theoretical aspects and applications of CBMI in the new era of Artificial Intelligence.  Authors are invited to submit previously unpublished research papers highlighting significant contributions addressing these topics. In addition, special sessions on specific technical aspects or application domains are planned.
